Frequently Asked Questions
-
Seasickness is a conflict in the nervous system triggered by contradictory information sent to the brain by the eyes, inner ear and proprioception. This contradiction is interpreted as a life-threatening situation and triggers a response in the nervous system with the aim of saving us.
-
Around 90% of people experience seasickness under the right conditions. It's a near-universal response, not a personal weakness. How intensely someone reacts depends on individual factors like prior experience, stress levels, and how the nervous system has learned to interpret motion.
-
Yes, it can. If the same conflicting signals keep occurring without resolution, the nervous system can start reacting more strongly and more quickly, even at the mere thought of getting on a boat. The good news: this pattern can be unlearned.
-
It can be overcome. Seasickness isn't technically a disease. It's a learned response of the nervous system. With the right training, that response can be permanently retrained.
-
Medication can alleviate symptoms temporarily, but it doesn't address the underlying conflict in the nervous system. Once the medication wears off, the same conflict remains, which is why symptoms tend to return on every trip.
-
Collaborative, honest, and straightforward. We're here to guide the process, bring ideas to the table, and keep things moving.
-
TilliT combines knowledge from four disciplines - seafaring, psychology, medicine, and sports science - to address the root cause of seasickness rather than just its symptoms. It's a one-time training designed to create lasting change, not a temporary fix.
-
Individual training takes about 3 hours; group training runs for about 4.5 hours.
-
No. The training is designed for complete beginners as well as experienced sailors and professional seafarers.
-
Yes, absolutely, no experience on the water is required.
-
You'll learn the theory behind seasickness, how the nervous system creates these symptoms, combined with practical exercises that retrain your body's perception of movement and balance.
-
For the in-person trainings we supply the equipment. For the online training it would be great if you had a balancing board, but this is not essential. Other than that, you will just need comfortable clothing and flexible shoes for the practical exercises.
-
Yes, training is available in English as well as German and Norwegian.
-
In-person training is held in Hamburg, Germany. Other locations, also international, are available upon request. Online training is also available.
-
Yes. The core content and exercises translate well to an online format, and many participants complete the training successfully from home or boat anywhere in the world.
-
Just a stable internet connection if training online, or simply show up if in person, no special preparation is required.
-
Please do not take any seasickness medication before the training, as this can interfere with the exercises.
-
Many participants notice a difference the very next time they're on the water. To ensure success you will need to practice the exercises learnt during training. Because the training addresses the root cause rather than the symptoms, the effect is typically long-lasting.
-
For most participants, yes. The method is designed as a one-time training that teaches lasting skills. However, you need to practice the exercises on your ownd to implement the new skills.
-
If someone’s struggle continues in spite doing the exercises repeatedly, we have another session to look for the reason behind it. If none of the extra support works, we stand behind our training with a satisfaction guarantee. If the training doesn't work for you, you get your money back.
-
Some practice on your next few trips can help reinforce what you've learned. Eventually you will not need it anymore. We recommend repeating the exercises when you havn’t been on a boat for a longer time or are facing extreme conditions.
-
If it's been a while since your last time on the water, a quick round of the exercises before your next trip is enough to reactivate what you've learned. No need to repeat the full training.
-
The training itself, plus a follow-up handout and access to phone or written support afterward if needed.
-
If you cancel at least two weeks before the training, you'll be refunded the fee minus a small processing charge. Cancellations made after that are non-refundable.
